Jace Kempen: Structural Engineer & Middling Climber
Jace is a structural engineer and standard-issue Colorado Front Range guy with a strict three-night limit on backpacking trips—any longer and he needs a second food bag just for candy. Jace’s favorite way to go halfway is to plan a four-summit day, only do two, and then call it quits because that cloud over there looks kinda dark. Traveling to new places specifically to climb gives him a sense of responsibility to the places he visits: respecting the land, supporting local communities, packing out trash, and generally trying not to be “that guy”, even if he’s power-screaming on that “super runout” 5.9+ slab (he has a bolt at his waist). His 2WD truck has gotten him and his wife everywhere they've needed to go, plus a few places they had no business going.
His greatest weakness is cheap concerts and forgetting earplugs at home.
You can find Jace on Instagram @kempenjn where he might not geo-tag the crag, but will always give you beta if you ask.
